Well well well, Mr. Ampersand.
I just got a note from somebody at work today and they used the famous “&” symbol in their message to me. It looked funny to me for some reason, so I looked it up.
“In everyday handwriting, the ampersand is sometimes simplified to a backwards 3 superimposed by a vertical line…”
Sure enough, I have been handwriting the “&” symbol as an “E” instead of a “3″ for who knows how long. I have no idea if I have always been writing it like that, or if this just started happening recently. In any event, I am a fucking retard.
Other things I did not know:
1. “Q” is only the 17th letter in the English alphabet. I could have sworn it was further down on the alphabet.
2. The correct term for the ”|” symbol is pipe. *note to self, must tell the Mario Brothers…
3. The phonetic spelling of the letter “H” is aitch.
4. The last letter to become a part of the English language was the letter “W.”
5. In most closed captioning, sarcasm is shown with an exclamation mark or question mark in brackets at the end of a sentence: Oh really (?).

It’s not even a double-u, it’s a double-v.
Stupid letter-naming people…

“The correct term for the ”|” symbol is pipe.”
